Comparison of Coding Strategies for Multiantenna Multicarrier Transmission

We investigate point-to-point transmission over dispersive multiple-input/multiple-output channels (MIMO ISI channels). MIMO orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing decomposes the frequency-selective channel into a set of independent flat-fading MIMO channels. Remaining spatial interference has to be treated in each carrier individually by means of MIMO equalization/precoding. We combine several MIMO OFDM schemes with coded modulation and assess respective requirements and performances. In particular, bit-interleaved coded modulation and trellis-coded modulation are compared. Numerical results are presented for both cases and conclusions for preferable coding/equalization schemes are given.
